So after Beth and a pair of scissors ruined a perfectly good standoff and exchange, let’s see how our walker killing group picks up right after. “What Happened and What’s Going On” is a strong return for the rest of Season Five and, like “The Grove,” shows the price of optimism in a world filled with so much loss and danger. It has the benefit of focusing primarily on one group and, as such, feels like a more cohesive story.
“A”? More like B+ at best.
So Season 4 of The Walking Dead comes to a close with “A.” Given the groups we’ve focused on as we approached the season finale, this episode, I think, had to accomplish two goals: give Rick’s group the main focus and get them to Terminus. While the episode did manage to do both, the overall experience felt like a jumbled mess hampered by flashbacks that reinforced character points about Rick that the audience already knows.
